MDU Power Outage Early Thursday Caused by Transmission Line

Posted in

At approximately 2:15 Thursday morning, residents in Sheridan County lost power. According to information from Montana-Dakota Utilities, the cause of the outage was related to a transmission line that runs from the PP&L substation to MDU’s substation. The cause of the tripped line is unknown at this time. As the area affected is still in fire season, the entirety of the line has to be inspected before bringing it back online. In the interim, MDU rerouted power feeds to other line sources until the service to the other line is restored. All customers had power restored by around 3:30am.

The outage affected customers in south and west Sheridan, Big Horn, Banner, and Story. The MDU online outage map still showed that some patrons were affected several hours after power was restored. MDU Officials explained that that was not accurate as not all of the affected meters had been cleared, even though those consumers had their power back online.
