Many local business leaders are hoping for good news today, in regard to state funding.

Despite Wyoming’s small population, it has a relatively robust state government that spends $9.3 billion in state and federal dollars every two years.

Nearly 100 people came out to hear the state of the cities and county reports presented Wednesday during the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Chamber CEO Dixie Johnson introduced the program.

Wyoming’s U.S. Senator John Barrasso, a Republican, and Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Ohio, introduced bipartisan legislation this week to expedite the payment of Social Security Disability Insurance known as SSDI benefits to people with terminal illnesses by eliminating the five-month waiting period.

UPDATE: Authorities have still not identified the body of a man found Sunday at Healy Reservoir east of Buffalo, in Johnson County.

After several months of negotiations between the City of Sheridan and Century Link, third reading of an ordinance establishing a franchise agreement between the two was approved Tuesday night by the city council. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more on the story.
