Sheridan County Spelling Bee

Saturday, 73 5th through 8th grade students, from all schools across the county, took part in the county-wide spelling bee, all with hopes to continue on to national competition.

Cheney Files for Lummis Seat

The Associated Press has confirmed that Liz Cheney has filed to run for the U.S. House seat soon to be vacated by Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming. The elder daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney is ready to announce her run for the congressional seat on Monday.

Slash Piles in Big Horns Slated for Burn

Plumes of smoke may be seen over the Big Horns in coming weeks. Forest firefighters will be burning slash piles in areas around Red Grade Road. The piles scheduled for burning are located at Swamp Creek, Big Goose Ranger Station, Spear-O-Wigwam, Coffeen Park, and along the road into Dome Lake.

Superintendent Balow Discusses Budget Cuts

The Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee recently completed their “markup” of the governor’s proposed budget for the biennium. The JAC elected to cut $45 million from K-12 education funding over the next two years.

Forest Service Needs Seasonal Workers

The U.S. Forest service is now hiring temporary workers for the spring and summer season in the local area. Susie Douglas made the announcement.
