With music by Canary Joe, food, sparkling cider and bingo, about 150 people gathered at The Hub on Smith Street Friday afternoon to welcome in the New Year a few days early.

Carmen Rideout, executive director of The Hub, said the facility has been celebrating New Year's at Noon for about five years or so. She said the purpose is to give everyone a chance to celebrate the coming year and the year gone by.

Rideout said The Hub was holding the New Year's celebration a few days early this year because of the timing. New Year's Eve is on Sunday, and New Year's Day is Monday. She said most of The Hub's staff is off on the weekend, and The Hub wanted to celebrate when the most people were around for the event.

Rideout said The Hub will be open on holiday hours on New Year's Day. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Goose Creek transit will be open during those same hours.
