Atkins to Discuss Research at Congressional Hearing

Randall Atkins, who's CEO and chairman of Ramaco Carbon, is scheduled to speak Tuesday before a U.S. House subcommittee regarding the company's efforts to create the first vertically integrated coal-to-products manufacturing park and research center in Sheridan.

Atkins' talk, before the House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, is scheduled to start at noon local time.

In his opening statement, which has been submitted to the committee, Atkins says Ramaco is now working with two Department of Energy-affiliated national labs as well as some of the top minds in advanced materials research.

He says the goal of this innovation will be to create carbon products from coal, some of which will sell for high margins and, in many cases, will also require large volumes of coal as the basic carbon feedstock. Randall says the result will hopefully be an innovative, disruptive higher tech future for the coal industry, independent of power trends and related environmental issues.

Atkins says Ramaco Carbon signed an umbrella cooperative research and development agreement in June with the DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory and had previously entered into a partnership with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
