Augmented Reality System

Researchers with the University of Wyoming teamed up with a Casper medical company to bring to market an augmented reality system that’s intended to make ultrasound-guided surgical injection procedures easier, faster and more comfortable.

UW Vice President for Communications and Marketing Chad Baldwin says that the system, which has FDA approval, includes AR goggles and a computer system to connect to nearly all ultrasound systems on the market.

Baldwin said that Casper Medical Imaging is using the system to treat patients for sports-related injuries and other overuse injuries that require ultrasound-guided injections. He said the AR system is also being used by the Badia Hand to Shoulder Center in Miami, Florida, and has been featured on OrthoNow, a popular orthopedic site and blog.
