A bill before the U.S. Senate would have the National Forest Service spending $2.8 million on wildland fire management. Wyoming Senator John Barrasso opposed the measure and asked the full Senate to approve an amendment striking the expenditure. What was the reason for Barrasso’s concern?
The State of Wyoming has over 9 million acres of National Forest Land, and yet initially received no funding from Forest Service Stimulus monies.
Barrasso says there are major fires in several states where those fire management funds could be better spent.
The Senate passed Barrasso’s amendment on a voice vote yesterday.
