Beer Lovers Converge At Buffalo's Oktoberfest Today

The 7th Annual Buffalo Oktoberfest, presented by the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce and sponsored in part by Sheridan Media, will be happening today in downtown Buffalo.

There will be a Home Brew Contest featuring nine different varieties of beers, art and food vendors, face painting and inflatables for the kids to enjoy, and fun for those wanting to celebrate beer.

Nine different types of beers; Pilsners, Stouts, Porters, IPAs, Ambers, Lagers, Wheats, Pale Ales and Browns, a new category added this year; will be judged, with winners in each category taking $200 in prize money, as will the favorite in the People's Choice category.

Angela Fox, Director and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, gives more details and some of the new twists with this year's celebration.

New Belgium Brewing Company, a major sponsor for the Oktoberfest and Home Brew Contest, will be donating extra prizes and raffling a special V.I.P. tour of their brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Nearly 20 home brewers with over 30 different beers are registered for the Home Brew Contest that the public will be able to sample with a commemorative sampler mug given to those attending who are 21 and over.

The cost for admission to Oktoberfest is $20 per person at the gate.

The 7th Annual Buffalo Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest will be happening from noon to 6pm today near Crazy Woman Square in Buffalo.
