Sheridan's utility manager says keep those water pipes warm, or this deep-freeze could cause a breakage.

News Director Leslie Stratmoen has the report.

Sheridan's utility maintenance manager says the bitter cold can have catastrophic effects on water systems.

So, Ken Hirschman says take care to properly insulate pipes, because exposed water lines, and even the water meter, can freeze, rupture and break when temperatures drop below freezing.

He went on to say that being familiar with the plumbing can be crucial in an emergency situation. In other words, he says, know where the water shut-off valves are located and how they work. To learn more, specifically, about how to protect your personal water lines from freezing, he says, call a plumber.
