Commissioners Holding Opinions On Legislative Session

Bill Novotny

Johnson County's Commissioners are waiting to assess this year's Legislative session and all that may affect county government until bills before Governor Matt Mead are considered and either signed or vetoed.

Commission Chairman Bill Novotny told those attending this weeek's commissioner's meeting that they would be better equipped to give a better opinion on the session, especially the bills concerning repeal of the gun-free zones and other related matters are addressed by the governor.

Cjhairman Novotny said the commissioner knew the session was difficult for lawmakers, but things could have turned out much worse for local governments.

The county will begin their budget sessions later this spring and must have their budget finalized to the state by July 20th.
