Council Gets First Look at Budget Schedule

Sheridan's city council members got their first look at this year's budget schedule during their study session earlier this week.

Jim Harmon, who's the finance and administrative services director, said the council will get an introduction to budgeting and revenue projections in a study session on April 24, starting at 4:30 p.m. Also at that meeting, they'll hear budget presentations from the treasurer and clerk and proposed budgets for the city council, executive and human services departments.

On May 8, Harmon said the council will hear presentations on the proposed budgets of the police, fire department, the city capital improvement pan, engineering, plnning, building and city hall maintenance, and presentations on May 15 for streets, parks, the cemetery, weed and pest, recreation, water, wastewater, landfill and recycling. Both those sessions will start at 4:30 p.m.

Harmon said another session can be scheduled for 4:30 on June 12 if needed to finish discussions on the budget.

A public hearing on the 2018 budget will be held at 7 p.m. on June 19. The budget has to be adopted by July 1, which is the beginning of the 2018 fiscal year.
