County Approves Lease Agreement With Rural Health

Johnson County's Commissioners discussed the renewal of a lease agreement with County Rural Health, for the lease of land and tower space for their communications system at the airport.

County Deputy Attorney Barry Crago reviewed the agreement and made appropriate changes for the five-year agreement.

Commissioner Jim Hicks asked Crago if the county would be liable if the tower were to be damaged or collapse, and he said the county would not, as they are leasing only the real property, the land, that the tower and adjacent building sit on.
It is the responsibility of Rural Health to perform maintenance and take care of any repairs or necessary replacement under the agreement, and also to pay the electric bill on the site.

The commissioners approved Chairman Bill Novotny to sign the agreement, pending approval of the Rural Health District Board.
