County Commissioner Candidates

There are three candidates who are running for the two available seats on the Sheridan County Commission. Incumbents Tom Ringley and Mike Nickel, both Republicans, and Democrat Vicki Taylor.

While guest’s on our news talk show Public Pulse, the candidates discussed the topic of the Sheridan County optional one-cent sales tax. Taylor wasn’t in favor of the projects and entities that are currently being funded by the tax.

Taylor took issue with the one-cent tax being used to fund such groups as Forward Sheridan, the Downtown Sheridan Association, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce and the Sheridan Community Land Trust. She added that there needs to be a more open conversation in regard to the projects on the list.

Ringley said the meetings pertaining to the one-cent applicants have always been public.

Nickel said the projects and organizations that are currently receiving one-cent funds were thoroughly vetted before being approved, and that it’s always been a transparent process.
