County Hears From Treasurer, Public Works

Sheridan County Treasurer Pete Carroll has trimmed his budget for next year by just under 2 percent, to just over $412,000.

But he said Thursday morning that 97 percent of his department's budget is personnel. Carroll made his budget presentation to Sheridan County commissioners Thursday morning, as did County Engineer Ken Muller representing the public works and road and bridge departments.

Carroll said he needs the staff he has.

County Engineer Ken Muller presented budgets for public works and the road and bridge department. The proposed road and bridge budget for the year that starts on July 1 is just under $943,000, which is 8.9 percent less than the current year budget.

The public works budget is down by a little more than 17 percent from the current year, with proposed expenses of $712,600. County Clerk Eda Schunk Thompson said commissioners will continue their first round of budget meetings with department heads next week. Commission Chairman Bob Rolston said earlier that meetings may go into second, third and possibly fourth rounds in the weeks ahead.
