County Poverty Issues Focus of Meeting

Findings from a Community Needs Assessment surrounding the issues of poverty in Sheridan County will be the focus of a meeting Wednesday afternoon at The Hub on Smith Street.

The meeting will start at 2 p.m. and is open to the public, according to Linda Gostas, who's the Sheridan County Tripartite Board coordinator.

Gostas said the report will be presented by consultants with Community Builders of Douglas, who prepared the survey. She said the preliminary report of their findings will be presented Wednesday.

Gostas said the needs assessment is a requirement of the federal Community Services Block Grant provided by the government. And, she said, the assessment helps the Tripartite Board determine where, and how, to spend the funds received from the grant. That's important, she said, because Sheridan County receives only a little over $150,000 through the grant.

She said the Tripartite Board, which administers the grant funds, is so named because of its three components. Three members of the board are elected officials, three are members of the community and three are people who represent the low-income community in Sheridan County.
