Details Released on Fatal Crash Near Cody

Last Thursday, at 12:20, 5 motorcycles and a pickup truck were involved in a crash that claimed the lives of 3 German national residents on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 approximately 23 miles west of Cody.

The 5 motorcycles were part of a group of 6 traveling west, while the 2003 Chevrolet C/K 1500, driven by 61-year-old Ontario, Oregon resident Manuel Defuentes, was traveling east. While trying to negotiate a gradual curve in the road, the truck crossed the centerline striking 5 of the 2015 Harley-Davidsons carrying a total of 7 passengers.

All of the riders were from Germany and 3 of the 7 sustained fatal injuries on scene. The other 4 riders were transported to West Park Hospital in Cody and then 3 were airlifted to Billings. The 4th rider was treated and released.

Defuentes was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to West Park Hospital where he was treated and released. He was then arrested and charged with one count of negligent vehicular homicide. Additional Charges are pending.
