Fatal Crash Reported East of Sheridan

A 19-year-old Arvada man died Friday in a fatal crash east of Sheridan.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Zachary Gibbs, and is still investigating the exact date and time of the crash, but it's believed the event happened sometime between late evening Thurday and early morning Friday. The highway patrol was notified of the crash shortly before 6:30 a.m. Friday.

The crash happened about 12 miles southeast of Sheridan. Gibbs was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck and was eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the pickup overcorrected to the left and entered a spin. During the spin, the vehicle left the highway to the north, tripped and rolled. Gibbs wasn't wearing his seatbelt, and sustained fatal injuries on-scene.

According to the highway patrol, alcohol use, driver fatigue and a possible medical issue are all being investigated as possible contributing factors in the crash.

The highway patrol says this was the 80th highway fatality in Wyoming in 2016. There were 108 fatalities during the same time period in 2015.
