Game Warden Provides Bear Safety Tips

Last week’s sighting of a young black bear in south Sheridan was a reminder that living near the Big Horn Mountains means that large predators can show up unexpectedly within the city. Sheridan Region Game Warden Bruce Scigliano says that people need to be mindful of where they live.

Scigliano said that bears are also attracted to bird and hummingbird feeders and outdoor grills. He said if you do happen to encounter a bear in town, the best thing to do is not run.

As far as what became of the bear that caused such a stir?

Since the last confirmed sighting of the bear occurred over a week ago on May 31, Scigliano said that they are hoping the animal returned to its natural habitat in the Big Horn’s.
