Goose Creek Transit Holds Open House

Goose Creek Transit, which is Sheridan's public door-to-destination bus service, will hold an open house on April 6 to celebrate the opening of the service's newly expanded and remodeled facility.

The event will start with a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. April 6 at the building, which is at 2114 East Side Second Street, off East Ridge Road. The ribbon-cutting will be followed by tours of the building. Lois Bell, who's communications director of the Sheridan Senior Center, said no advance registration is required for the open house.

Bell said the transit service began as the Senior Center's mini-van service.

A little over a year ago, she said, the service was re-named Goose Creek Transit as a way to make the public aware that the service is for everyone in the community.

The building expansion was made possible through the efforts of community volunteers who participated in the Senior Center's 2015 Celebrating Generations and Building Community capital campaign.

Bell said Goose Creek Transit includes a fleet of 12 buses. She said rides must be arranged by appointment and in advance. The number to call is 675-RIDE, which is 675-7433.
