Green River to Host 2nd Annual Spaceport Day

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. (AP) - If you start calling a rural airstrip a spaceport, there's no telling who might land there.

Almost 20 years have passed since Green River officials renamed their local dirt airstrip out in the sagebrush the Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport.

Nobody has seen any spaceships touch down. Not too many airplanes have landed, either.

Local officials aren't giving up. They're already starting to plan the second annual Spaceport Day to be held out at the spaceport this summer.

No little green men showed up at the first Spaceport Day last summer but the festival drew a number of small-aircraft pilots. Local officials declared it a "spectacular event" and a "huge success."

The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner report a walk/run could be among the activities at Spaceport Day 2014.
