Democrat Hollis Hackman of Sheridan will run for the State House District 51 seat in Sheridan County, as he’s officially filed for the position. Hackman said this past legislative session was the turning point in his decision to run.

Hackman, who currently serves as a trustee on the Sheridan County School District #2 Board, says if elected, education would be one of his priorities.

The other two candidates who’ve filed for House District 51 are Republican incumbent Rosie Berger of Big Horn and Republican Bo Biteman of Ranchester.

The deadline for candidates to file for this year’s election is the end of the business day Friday. Candidates for state and federal offices must register with the Secretary of State's office in Cheyenne, while county candidates register at the election office in Sheridan County. Candidates for municipal offices must register with their respective city or town clerks.
