Library Board Sets Strategic Planning Meeting

Trustees of the Sheridan County Library System have set Nov. 16 as the date to meet with the Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation in a strategic planning session.

The meeting, which will start at 5:30 p.m. In the Inner Circle, was scheduled during the trustees' meeting Wednesday night.

In other action, trustees approved a resolution clarifying the arrangement for employees' contributions to the Wyoming Retirement System. Under the state system, employees pay 8.25 percent of their retirement, but the county currently pays 6.25 percent of that for people employed before June 30, 2016, leaving the employees to pay only 2 percent. People hired on July 1, 2016 or later pay the full 8.25 percent. The resolution, required by the state, sets that arrangement on paper.

Trustees discussed a question of who should operate the library system in the absence of Director Cameron Duff. Duff said at this time, there isn't anyone who's specifically identified to replace him in event of his absence.

Trustee Dick Shackelford said he doesn't think it's fair to Duff that he's still responsible for running the library via the phone when he's on vacation. Shackelford said his second concern is what happens if something should happen to Duff that would prevent him from performing his duties. Trustees took no action on the matter Wednesday.

In his monthly report to the trustees, Duff said more people are using WiFi at Sheridan Fulmer and all three branch libraries. He issued a report on circulation that showed circulation at all four libraries exceeded 28,800 materials last month, which was down slightly from September last year but up by more than 3,000 over September 2015.
