Local Farrier Finishes Well in WCB Competition at Don King Days

Local Farrier Troy Ehrentrout finished in the top 20 in Monday’s Liberty Live Shoeing competition. This was the 6th World Championship Blacksmith contest to be held at Don King Days in Big Horn. Ehrentrout says not all competitors get to this final round:

Competition in earlier events is hot and fierce. Ehrentrout describes the process and scoring:

The Big Horn WCB Championship falls at the busiest time of year for area ferriers. Ehrentrout explains why it’s been worth it to compete for 19 of his 26 years in this work:

Tom Petersen of Bozeman, Montana, took first in the Liberty Live Shoeing; and, in a shoe-off with Jessica Melvin, went on to win the 2018 Big Horn Championship.

Other area ferriers who competed this year were Caleb French and Adam Gable from Sheridan, Colter Manley from Ucross, and Shelby Vandenbrink from Buffalo. Others came from as far away as the Carolinas to vie for top honors.
