A Look Back in Time: Dec. 9, 1919

Now here's Sheridan Media's look back in time, to 100 years ago, as published in the Sheridan Enterprise newspaper on Dec. 9, 1919.

All miners are striking at Dietz, Acme, Carneyville, Monarch, Model and Kooi. With last night being the coldest in 20 years, dozens of families in Sheridan were without coal. At noon today, more than 200 families were out of coal.

At 7:30 o’clock this morning, the weather bureau reported a temperature of 41 degrees below zero, the coldest since February in 1899, when 45 below zero was recorded.

The first election in Clearmont will be held on Dec. 18. A mayor and four councilmen are to be elected. The town was incorporated on Nov. 19.

Warm winter gloves for men, women and children are priced from 75 cents to $3.50 at Reed’s.
