A Look Back in Time: June 17, 1916

Now here's Sheridan Media's look back in time, to 100 years ago, by reporter Pat Blair as published in the Sheridan Enterprise newspaper on June 17, 1916.

A tourist riding race will be a feature each day at the Sheridan Stampede, which will be July 3, 4 and 5. The first day, tourists from the ranch resorts of Sheridan County will participate, and the next day will feature those from Johnson County. The winners of those races will participate in the final race for a handsome trophy.

George Scales, of the Scales Motor company of Sheridan, and A.E. Anderson of the forest service, made a trip yesterday up the Dayton mountain road in a standard Ford touring car. They traveled to Turkey creek, about 15 miles from Dayton, but encountered deep snow a short distance beyond Turkey creek, which made further progress impossible.

Guests at the Sheridan Inn include C.A. Gardner of Butte and W.J. Melchert of Chicago.
