Kim Love and Pete and Lynne Simpson were recognized for their contributions to Sheridan's WYO Theater as they received the theater's first Lotus Awards Friday night.

WYO board member Susan Miller explained the significance of the name.

Miller said the Simpsons became involved with the WYO at what could have been the end of the theater in Sheridan. She said Lynne Simpson purchased a $5,000 option to buy the theater in 1981, and started the effort to save the WYO. Miller cited the Simpsons' continued involvement with the WYO, and said the two have remained tremendous supporters and ambassadors to the WYO through the years.

Lynne Simpson said saving the WYO was a community effort.

She said she wanted people to leave the WYO as inspired by themselves as she and Pete were inspired by them. Pete Simpson expressed his feelings in an interview with Sheridan Media before the presentation.

Love also spoke with Sheridan Media before the presentation.

The awards were presented during a reception that preceded Friday's scheduled performance of the Glenn Miller orchestra.
