Flying out to Memphis today, the Melissa B Band will be competing in the International Blues Challenge this week and Sheridan Media’s Judy Hagerott sat down with Melissa Butcher and brings us this story.

Memphis, Tennessee, known as the “Home of the Blues” and the International Blues Challenge and today, Melissa Butcher and her band, the Melissa B Band, is flying out to Memphis to compete.

In its 32nd year, the Blues Challenge is the largest gathering of blues bands in the world. The four-day competition takes place each night with different bands playing in elimination rounds in different blues clubs and Butcher hopes to win it all.

She said just getting there is worth it.

After competing in Casper earlier in the year, the Melissa ‘B’ Band was selected by the Wyoming Blues and Jazz Society to compete in Memphis. Band leader, Butcher described what the blues means to her.

She has been singing since she was four and Butcher said singing makes her soul come alive.

The winning band will take home $3000 cash along with several days of studio recording.
