Monitoring Flood Potential

Springtime flooding in Sheridan County is something that County officials prepare for every year. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Sheridan County and the City of Sheridan have measures in place to monitor the stream levels during spring runoff. Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Bruce Edwards says there are a couple of resources that they use to watch the water levels.

Edwards explains what the protocol is once it’s clear that flooding is imminent.

Hearing from residents who live along waterways throughout the County helps considerably said Edwards.

Edwards said that people that live in low lying areas or near places that are prone to flooding after spring runoff, should be preparing now, not when the weather service starts issuing flood watches and warnings.
