Numerous Organizations Working to Make Holiday Better

The holiday season is a time for giving and reaching out to the community, and there are many organizations in the county that would appreciate contributions or volunteers.

These organizations are often at their busiest during the season, and those in the community who are looking to give back have many options.

Some organizations and holiday events in the area include Angel Trees, “Shop with a Cop”, and Sheridan Media's "Christmas Wish Campaign".

The Annual Angel Tree event is a local tradition that involves Christmas trees being set up in various locations with tags for people who could use a gift this holiday. Each tag shows a name and age, and participants purchase a gift for that individual. The tags are to be returned with an unwrapped gift at to the Salvation Army office to be distributed.

“Shop with a Cop” will be on Saturday, Dec. 20. During the event, members of the Sheridan Police Department will accompany children on a shopping outing at Kmart to get a Christmas present for their parents. The event is free and no advanced registration is required.

Sheridan Media's “Christmas Wish Campaign” is our annual program for people who may have fallen on temporary hard times, such as illness, death in the family, or sudden unemployment. Along with the help of local sponsors, we work to make wishes come true. The window for wishes is already closed, but the program is always accepting monetary donations. Stay tuned and we will fill you in on whose wish we fulfilled this holiday season.

Other organizations in need include the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, and numerous food banks across the county. A full list of local charities and non-profit organizations and contact information made available by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce can be found in an attachment below.
