‘Outside the Box’ Approach Needed for Education Spending

Wyoming is currently facing a $400 million shortfall in education funding and State budget analysts have estimated the deficit could grow to $1.8 billion by 2022.

Earlier this week, the Joint Education Interim Committee elected to drop three bills that would have cut millions in education funding. State Senator Dave Kinskey of Sheridan said that an “outside of the box” approach is what’s needed to fix the funding issue.

Instead of advancing the bills intended to cut education funding, the committee earlier this week voted to create a subcommittee to begin working on a proposal aimed at a more local comprehensive approach.
