Pantry Needs Turkeys

The local food pantry in Sheridan is in need of donations.

Here's News Director Leslie Stramoen with the report.

Turkeys, turkeys, turkeys. The Sheridan food pantry needs turkeys. The request comes from Dan Lick. He's the chief executive officer of the local food pantry, which goes by the name of the People Assistance Food Bank. He said the food pantry feeds 200 families a day, and plans to feed double that number for Thanksgiving.

He says there's no extensive paperwork to fill out to receive the food.

Now, he said, if you want to help, you can purchase a turkey on Friday or Saturday (Nov. 22-23) at any one of the Sheridan grocery stores and drop the bird off for the food pantry as you leave the store, because they'll have people stationed at all locations.

And while you're at it, he said, you could add canned potatoes, yams, cranberries, corn or pie filling, to round out the Thanksgiving dinner prep packages they'll be handing out to local families.

He did say the non-perishables can be dropped off at the center, anytime.

The center is open for food pickup on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 10-4. The center is located at 2560 North Main Street. Emergency food boxes are always available, with the stipulation of one box a year per household.
