Plan Now For Buffalo Chamber's Oktoberfest

This year's seventh annual Buffalo Oktoberfest, presented by the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, is just a couple of weeks away, but organizers are encouraging those who wish to participate in the Home Brew Contest to register now for the event.

Nine distinctly different types of beers will be judged, and winners in each category will, in addition to gaining bragging rights, will win $200 in prize money, as will the favorite in the People's Choice category.

Home brewers can enter Pilsners, Stouts, Porters, IPAs, Ambers, Lagers, Wheats, Pale Ales and Browns, a new category added this year.

Brewers can enter as many styles as they choose for just $20 per entry, and can sign up by contacting the Chamber of Commerce, whose contact information is at the end of this story below.
Brewers are asked to make enough for the public to sample, usually about five gallons.

The public is welcome to attend for just $20 at the gate or $15 for advance tickets and samplers must be 21 or older.

A commemorative sampler mug is given to those attending and can be used to try the different home brews.

In addition to the beer, there will be art and food vendors and face painting and inflatables for the kids to enjoy.

New Belgium Brewing Company is still the major sponsor for the Oktoberfest and Home Brew Contest. They have donated a bicycle to raffle during previous years, but this year will be doing something different.

Angela Fox, with the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, explained that the sponsor will be donating extra prizes and raffling a special V.I.P. tour of the brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce's Oktoberfest will be happening Saturday, September 17th from noon to 6pm in and around Crazy Woman Square in Buffalo.
Admission is $20 at the gate or $15 by getting advance tickets from the chamber of commerce.
