Pocket Pets Come in Wide Variety

The pocket pets come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

That's according to Emily Swinyer, Extension 4-H educator.

Swinyer said entries in this year's Sheridan County Fair included a leopard gecko. The show was at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and in addition to showmanship, Swinyer said there were some fun categories involved.

She said the show even included a costume contest.

Swinyer said the event is relatively new to the Sheridan County Fair, and a contest that fair officials are trying to build up, because it gives youth a chance to show the less-than-conventional pets that they're interested in.

As with livestock, Swinyer said youth in the pocket pet class can also make posters and other informational materials about their pets for display in the static exhibits.
