Polar Bear Plunge Happens New Year's Day

Gary Senier of Story, during last year's Polar Bear Plunge at Lake DeSmet.

This will be the 27th year, according to the organizers, that upwards of 100 to 125 hardy souls will brave snowy weather and icy waters in nothing but bathing suits to prove...well, only they know why they do it!

Rob Forister has been organizing the plunge for the last ten years.
He explains how he got involved in the annual event.

This year's plunge is again scheduled for 1pm New Year's Day at the south boat ramp at the Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet.

There is no pre-registration and no fees involved, just show up with your best swimwear and “take the plunge.”
