Public Meetings Scheduled For Fluoride Discussion

Dr. Mark Schueler

Johnson County Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler gave the county commissioners an update on the fluoride in Buffalo's water issue during the recent quarterly meeting of the County Board of Health.

Dr. Schueler told the board that he addressed the issue with the Buffalo City Council at their meeting April 5th, when the council agreed to host two public meetings to gather public input on the subject.

Schueler told the board he expects the discussion to be heated, but he feels it is necessary to continue to push for fluoride to be added to the city's drinking water.

Schueler said he continues to see large numbers of people with dental infections and he would like to see all county residents address the legacy of kids with rotten teeth.

Dr. Schueler said despite the contentious nature of the issue, he feels it deserves some serious attention.

The public meetings to gather input from community members are scheduled for May 5th and May 25th, both at 5pm at Buffalo's City Hall.
