Several public buildings will be closed for News Year's Day, like the Sheridan County offices and City Hall.

According to the city website, City Hall will close at 3 today and will stay closed all day tomorrow, on New Year's Day, but garbage pickup will continue this week on a regular schedule. Sanitation crews get a holiday on Christmas, but work their regular hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The city's landfill and recycling center will also be closed Wednesday.

Also, the Sheridan County libraries will be closed both today and tomorrow, but the Sheridan County Fulmer Library will be back open on Thursday at regular hours, which are 9-9, and over the weekend, from 9-5 Saturday and 1-5 Sunday.

The Sheridan County Museum and gift shop are closed for the season. However, starting on January 11, the museum gift shop will re-open from 1 until 5 Tuesdays through Saturdays through April 30.

The one public gathering place that will be open both today and on Wednesday, New Year's Day, is the Sheridan Senior Center, from 8 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. The center's New Year's Eve celebration will start at noon, today.

Organizers say the event will feature a lunch of hot beef sandwiches served from 11:30 until 12:45, and music by Canary Joe, otherwise known as Jane Perkins and friends. Party hats will be passed out, and there will be a toast at noon, with a non-alcoholic beverage. Bingo will follow.

A contribution of $4.50 is suggested for those 60 and older. The Senior Center is at 211 Smith Street.
