There will be many new faces when the Legislature convenes next month in Cheyenne, as there will be 19 freshman representatives in the 60 member House, and six in the 30 member Senate.

Representative for House District 40 Mike Madden says that the new members face a great challenge in the upcoming session due to the State’s grim financial picture. He said there are a lot of people, lawmakers included, who don’t fully grasp the situation that the Legislature faces.

Madden feels the $400 million deficit in education funding is one that won’t be able to be made up through cuts.

The 64th Legislature will convene the 2017 General Session January 10 at noon. The Joint Session of the Legislature and Governor's State of the State address will be January 11 at 10 a.m.
