School District 2 Loses Two 'Seasoned Veterans'

Sheridan County School District 2 lost two assistant superintendents this week, men that District Superintendent Craig Dougherty called seasoned veterans, with the retirement of Terry Burgess and Tom Sachse.

Dougherty said both men will be missed, and discussed what will happen next in the district in an interview with Sheridan Media.

Dougherty said in this year of budget cuts and shortfalls, the school district also has eliminated a maintenance position in the district's central office. Dougherty noted that Wyoming's Gov. Matt Mead has called for yet another round of budget cuts above cuts made in the legislative session, and said District 2 felt cuts in the district should come first from the central office.

He said the district has one of the lowest expenditures in the state on administration, and one of the highest in the state on instruction and teacher salaries.

Dougherty said the budget will go to District 2 trustees for consideration and adoption at the board's July 19 meeting.
