At their last meeting, the Sheridan County School District 1 Board of Trustees approved at $20.9 million budget for fiscal year 2013-2014. Superintendent Marty Kobza says some cuts had to be made due to a lack of federal funding, in particular Title I funding.

Kobza says salaries and benefits make up the majority of the budget, much like other schools across the state, but the district was unable to offer staff raises due in part to the fact that the legislature has denied estimated cost adjustments over the past four years.

Overall, he says the general budget has remained flat, leading the district to look at personnel and other cost cutting efforts to make the budget work. We'll have more news from the district in the coming days.
