SEEDA Board Chooses First Light

The Hand in Hand facility in Sheridan still sits vacant.

First Light Child Care Inc. was the consensus of the Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority as a possible tenant of the former Hand in Hand facility in Sheridan. After about an hour of discussion at their meeting Tuesday morning, the board unanimously agreed to enter into a tentative agreement to begin contract negotiations with First Light. SEEDA Chairman Dr. Paul Young says that the group met the requirements of the request for proposal more so than the other two groups, which were Thrive by Five and the Child Development Center.

All of the board expressed concern that none of the three proposals had a very detailed plan regarding a long term maintenance fund for the facility.

Immediately following the meeting, CDC Executive Director Sandi O'Dell expressed to Sheridan Media that they would be withdrawing their interest in the facility as they intend to move forward with their vision. Dr. Young said that there will be an executive session scheduled for early next week where the SEEDA Board will meet with representatives from First Light.

First Light is a Wyoming non-profit that was established in 2008 and intends to run the former Hand in Hand facility as an early childhood education and childcare facility with possible partnerships with Sheridan College and Sheridan High School among others. The Board of Directors for First Light is made up of Dale Buckingham, Clint Langer and Casey Osborn.
