The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee passed an amendment Wednesday to the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act of 2015 that would delist the gray wolf in Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. The measure, sponsored by U.S. Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming also prohibits courts from intervening in those states on behalf of the animal.

Senator Barrasso issued a news release, where he said the amendment recognizes that the four states have workable plans to protect wolves without federal intervention. He said it’s time to “recognize the science and focus our scarce taxpayer resources on truly imperiled species.” The bill will now head to the full Senate for consideration.
