Senate Joint Resolution 9, the proposed constitutional amendment sponsored by State Senator Dave Kinskey of Sheridan was postponed indefinitely by the House Education Committee.

The amendment that Kinskey was proposing specified that the legislature would determine the adequacy of public school funding and would prohibit courts from requiring funding beyond that prescribed by law. Kinskey said that despite the resolution failing to pass, he’s pleased the topic was debated and addressed.

Kinskey says that “the elephant in the room” continues to be the education funding crisis facing the State, as lawmakers have yet to come up with a solution to the $400 million annual deficit in education funding.
