28-year-old Shawn Osborne was arraigned in District Court on the charge of 1st Degree Murder.

28-year-old Shawn Osborne was arraigned in 4th Judicial District Court Tuesday. Osborne had initially been scheduled for arraignment on March 10th; however, his attorney, Robert Jones, requested that a competency evaluation be performed on his client. The report from the Wyoming State Hospital stated that Osborne is competent to face the charges brought against him.

During the arraignment Tuesday, Osborne plead not guilty by reason of mental deficiency or impairment, which lead to Judge John Fenn ordering another evaluation of the defendant. That evaluation has to be performed within the next 45 days by the State Hospital.

Judge Fenn asked prosecuting attorney Matt Redle how long he felt would be needed for the trial; Redle responded by saying that a week should be sufficient. The trial is set to begin the week of November 15th, 2010. Redle said that he would not seek the death penalty in the case.

Osborne is charged with 1st Degree Murder for allegedly killing 42-year-old Gerald Bloom on January 15th, 2010. If convicted, Osborne faces life imprisonment.
