Sheridan County Accepts Fire Mitigation Grant Agreement

The Sheridan County Commission has approved an agreement and accepted terms for up to $100,000 in grant funding from the US Department of Agriculture for a county fire mitigation program.

The agreement, between Sheridan County, the State Lands and Investments Board (SLIB) and the Wyoming Forestry Division, will help pay for fire mitigation work near Red Grade, according to County Administrative Director Renee Obermueller, who explained more about the grant at Wednesday's county commission meeting.

Obermueller said because it is a federal grant, the county was required to hire a fire mitigation coordinator, and they have opened negotiations with Paul Wright, who has been the county's coordinator in the past.
