Sheridan County Businesses to Host Manufacturing Day Tours

Ten Sheridan County businesses will open their doors to the community for tours next week in celebration of this year's Manufacturing Day.

The tours will be on Oct. 5 and will allow people to see firsthand how manufacturing works locally and learn about career opportunities available.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event to showcase modern manufacturing technology and change people's perceptions about today's manufacturing environment.

This will be the second year in a row that the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce's business retention and expansion committee has worked with local manufacturers to compile a schedule of tours here.

Chamber CEO Dixie Johnson said the tours give the public an opportunity to learn about the products made here in Sheridan County and to see firsthand the kind of highly skilled professionals we have in manufacturing.

She said the tours also show the demand for employees who can design, program and operate technology. She said the average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and between now and 2020, there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers that will need to be replaced.
