Sheridan School District Considers Random Drug Testing

A Sheridan County school district is considering a student-led proposal to randomly drug test students involved in school activities.

Sheridan County School District 1 will inform parents in February of the proposal and then send out an opinion survey before taking any more action.

Superintendent Marty Kobza says two students at Tongue River High School asked the district to consider such a policy. He said there is not a significant drug use problem in the district, but that such a policy could help ensure it remains that way.

The students who initiated the policy proposal say they are concerned about increased drug use at their school, saying the presence of drugs is frightening them.
