SHS Student Chosen for Rotary Abroad

Maddy Clift will be attending high school her Junior year very near Mexico City, Mexico, through the Rotary Outbound Exchange program.

Sheridan High School Sophomore Maddy Clift has recently been selected as one of twenty students in the Cowboy Country region of Rotary International to study abroad during the 2011-2012 school year. She will be living with a family very near Mexico City, heading south of the border this August. She tells us how she was selected.

After listening to past participants in the Outbound Exchange, the applicants were asked to list their top three choices of countries. Maddy was happy to get her first choice of Mexico, based upon what she learned about the culture and schools there. She shares what she's excited about and what she's a little nervous about.

Maddy is the daughter of Mike and Karen Clift. Karen indicates that compared to when she was Maddy's age, communication is so much better now as far as having one of her children living in another country for ten months. There's another concern.

So focusing on the positive, Maddy, who is becoming quite a fine cook, discusses something to which she's really looking forward – Mexican open air markets with fresh produce and meats.
