SMH Impressed With EMR Transition

Sheridan Memorial Hospital implemented its new Electronic Medical Records system approximately three weeks ago.

The formal report given to the board of trustees is technical staff is past the rudimentary troubleshooting of starting up the new system, and each day brings advances toward implementation of the new system. Nyle Morgan, chief information officer at the hospital, said going paperless is helping to clean up hospital workspaces.

Electronic Medical Records systems will be required by the federal government by 2016, but SMH is making the switch now to stay ahead of the curve. Morgan said going paperless not only rids the hospital of clutter, but allows hospital staff to spend more time with patients.
