Son of a Sheridan Couple Dies in Florida Days After a Shooting

News from Pensacola, Florida with ties to Sheridan -- an article published in the Pensacola News Journal indicates that 26-year-old Elijah Siler, the son of George and Patricia Siler of Sheridan, died of multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head, about 6:30 pm Wednesday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

The article says that about 50 family and friends of Elijah, who lived in Pensacola, gathered for a candelight vigil Thursday night at the intersection where a motorist found him lying about 11:15 Sunday night.

Investigators have not made an arrest in Siler's shooting. His death is the second homicide in Pensacola this year, the article states. Pensacola Assistant Police Chief Chip Simmons told reporters that his staff is still trying to piece together Elijah Siler's last hours, but they don't "have anything definitive yet."

The article indicates that Jeremiah Siler, Elijah's brother, told police that nothing was taken from his brother, so investigators do not believe robbery was the motive. Police feel the shooting was "personal ... they didn't take anything from [Elijah]. After he fell, they kept shooting him."

George and Patricia Siler, who are former residents of Pensacola, arrived there earlier this week. Along with Jeremiah, Elijah is survived by brother Isaiah Siler, age 24, and Rebekah Siler, age 19. All the siblings live in Pensacola.
