Speedy Preliminary Hearings Delayed For Murder Suspects

All three defendants in the Ernst murder case have waived their right to a speedy preliminary hearing in Sheridan County Circuit Court. 19-year-old Dennis Poitra, Jr. and 15-year-old Dharminder Vir Sen had been scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon. 16-year-old Wyatt Bear Cloud had previously waived that right.

All three are charged with 1st Degree Murder and Conspiracy to commit Aggravated Burglary after a home invasion left 79-year-old Robert Ernst dead on August 26th.

If convicted, the three will face life in prison. Due to the age of the defendants the death penalty is not an option for the two youngest. Sheridan County Attorney Matt Redle has stated that he will not seek the death penalty in Poitra’s case either.

The defendants are currently in custody and Circuit Court Judge John Sampson previously set their bail at $200,000 cash, each.
